Membership fees – Tietoala ry

Membership fees

Membership fee

The Tietoala membership fee for 2026 is €38 per month. This all-in-one fee covers:

  • Tietoala (the Associaton of IT Sector Employees)
  • The Union of Professional Engineers in Finland (Insinööriliitto)
  • The KOKO Unemployment Fund

In other words, one membership gives you professional support, advocacy, and income security.

You can conveniently set up an e-invoice in your online banking using the reference number from your membership invoice. More details on payment options are available on the Insinööriliitto website.

If you are transferring from another union, please make sure your membership fees are covered for every month, either with your previous union or with Insinööriliitto, so your benefits remain uninterrupted.

Reduced membership fees

If your situation changes, you may be eligible for a reduced membership fee.

Insinööriliitto offers reductions upon application. You can apply directly through their member pages, where you will also find detailed instructions.

The reduction is granted per calendar month and applies to full months when you do not have income (for example, no salary). Supporting documentation is required.

You may qualify for a reduced fee if you are, for example:

  • Unemployed or temporarily laid off
  • Completing military or civil service
  • On long-term sick leave
  • On parental leave
  • Retiring
  • On alternation leave
  • In a similar situation

For guidance, you can contact Insinööriliitto customer service:  +358 201 801 801 (Mon–Fri, 9am–4pm)
asiakaspalvelu@ilry.fi. You can find more details about the fees here.

Students – flexible and affordable entry

Tietoala offers a tailored membership for students entering the IT or game industry.

You may be eligible for the student membership if you:

  • Are a full-time student in an IT or game-related degree programme
  • Are not eligible for the Engineering student union (IOL)
  • Have not previously been a member of Insinööriliitto or its member organisations

Exception: those who switched from engineering studies to IT or game studies may still qualify.

  • €30 covers up to 5 years of membership
  • After that: €30 per year until graduation

This makes it an easy, low-cost way to stay connected to the industry while studying.

Student members can also:

  • Work as part-time entrepreneurs (while remaining full-time students)
  • Join the unemployment fund if they complete a paid internship or summer job

Full-time student status follows the current guidelines of Kela (the Finnish Social Insurance Institution).
