New National Collective Agreement for the IT Service Sector
Associaton of IT sector employees (Tietoala), YTN and Technology Industry Employers of Finland have negotiated a new collective agreement for the IT service sector. The new collective agreement comes into effect today, Tuesday, April 8, 2025. The agreement is valid until November 30, 2027. However, the last year can be terminated by either party.
Salary Adjustments
The cost impact of the salary solution in the agreement follows the so-called general line. Primarily, salary settlements are negotiated locally every year. The level of the local solution is open, as are the manner and timing of the salary adjustments. The local agreement with the employer is made by the shop steward, if one has been elected.
The deadline for local salary settlement negotiations this year is April 22, 2025. The negotiation period can be extended by local agreement.
If no local settlement is in place
If no local salary settlement is achieved, the ‘tailboard’ of the collective agreement is used. This means that all employees will receive a 2.0% salary increase in May, calculated from the monthly salary in effect in April, including fringe benefits. In addition, the employer will allocate a 0.5% salary increase from the company’s April salary pool to selected individuals.
Salary adjustments possibly implemented in the company from the beginning of 2025 can be taken into account in the salary adjustments according to the collective agreement. Similarly, if a new employee has been hired on or after March 1, 2025, their starting salary may have been agreed to include the increase according to the collective agreement.
Tailboards for 2026 and 2027:
- March 2026: 1.5% for all, 1.4% allocated by the employer
- March 2027: 1.5% for all, 0.9% allocated by the employer
Additionally, it was agreed in the collective agreement that a new so-called individual guarantee model will be tested in the salary solution for 2028.
Changes to the texts
There were no major changes to the texts of the collective agreement. The most significant change is that it is possible to agree locally on the payment of a Sunday work increase or its amount differently for church holidays falling on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
Based on the local agreement, the employer and employee can agree to transfer regular working hours cost-neutrally to a day off according to the working hour system.
An adoptive parent’s right to parental leave pay will now apply to a child who has not turned 10. Previously, the age limit was 7 years.
The working group for the development of the collective agreement has clarified the agreement texts, focusing particularly on improving the structure and readability of the collective agreement. Previous interpretations and application practices do not change with those amendments.
Approximately 23,000 employees are covered by the nationally binding collective agreement for the IT service sector. Many non-unionized companies have also announced that they will comply with the IT sector collective agreement.
